Last week, I attended the Verge Retail & eCommerce event at Epicenter Helsinki -a vibrant innovation hub connecting digital pioneers, startups, and corporations to co-create future business.
The Verge program featured insightful talks on the technological transformation of retail and eCommerce, emphasizing that while technology is ready, true change depends on our mindset.
One of the most striking highlights was Walmart’s recent announcement of a partnership with OpenAI — a clear sign that even the world’s largest retailer is embracing artificial intelligence to enhance customer experience and operations.
AI won’t replace people, but it will become an essential co-pilot in retail: helping customers find products faster, compare prices instantly, and optimize delivery routes in real time. At the same time, growing automation and digital payments underline the need for stronger transaction security and data protection.
Industry 5.0 reminds us that technology should serve people — not the other way around. The future of eCommerce will belong to those who combine innovation with human-centric thinking.
